Relatively difficult to find in Canada, Mountain horses are a trail rider’s dream.  Their natural four beat gait virtually eliminates the need to post in the saddle.  They are consistently good tempered, affectionate horses, making them ideal for young and old alike.  We pride ourselves on raising confident, well mannered foals.  We handle them daily, using John Lyons based training methods.  In addition to extensive ground work, our horses are exposed to a wide variety of obstacles, terrain and wildlife on the trails, ensuring a well rounded horse that is truly a pleasure to own and ride.

Most Mountain horses are under saddle and on the trails at the age of three.  In fact, it is challenging to find an affordable six or seven year old as they are highly prized and not often parted with.  Due to the overwhelming demand for our Mountain horses, we regularly import carefully chosen youngsters and under saddle horses.  Please contact us for information on horses currently at our US facilities.

Nickel Back Farm also offers a referral service for anyone looking at gaited mountain horses.  If we don't have your dream horse, we will gladly refer you to reputable breeders and assist you in finding the perfect horse.  Contact us for a list of recommended Rocky Mountain and Kentucky Mountain horse people in Canada and the US.
